I've got no clue what plans the ex-swede Ann Margret Olsson had when she left the rurals of Jämtland in her young years. It's hard to believe she thought, she would end up doing this heavy leftfield-ish disco piece in 'Midnight message' with Paul Sabu. Even though presenting a fairly long discography, I believe these fine moments are quite a rare for her.
Certainly my cup and I hope you dig too!

Sinnamon - I need you now
Here's one of the early blueprints of modern, soulful dance music. A stone cold classic in the 83' boogie tune from the girl group Sinnamon and 'I need you now'. They had some bigger, commercial success with some other songs, but this one is it.
Nuff said, really.

Craig Peyton - Be thankful for what you got
Here's a great take on William DeWaughn's iconic Philly classic 'Be thankful for what you got'. This is the instrumental version of the Craig Peyton 12" from 83' on Profile Records (which later on became the legendary Hip Hop label). Personally I do prefer this instrumental even though the vocal is more or less a dub version. Anyway, this should fit somewhere between the boogie and more contemporary house stuff.

The Quick - One light in a blackout
For me this one balances on a fine line on the verge of tipping over to the cheezy side. But it doesn't. 'One night in a blackout' by The Quick has been a big personal favourite for the past times. Obviously, if you're into vintage dance music it's very much a timeless piece with its soulful sound. This rip is off the 12" with the extended version.

Serious Intention - You don't know (Special remix)
Here's a heavy piece of proto-house or whatever you want to call it. Released in the early days of the Easy Street Records label, which then went on to release lots of garage and house music. This rip is off the Special remix 12" of Serious Intention's 'You don't know'. Without having been there myself I'm sure it was big with the Chicago and NY boys and queens.

Debbie Jacobs - High on your love
This is a heavy disco banger from Debbie Jacobs in 'High on your love'. She seem to been along quite long, continuing into more modern dance music later on. One funny thing about the song is scratchy sounds coming in after about 2 minutes. Anyway this is something for all disco queens.

King Sporty & The Root Rockers – Get On Down
T.K. is one of those labels that are quite easy to foresee. Sure, they've released quite lot and there are ten a penny, but if you look around there are quite a few nuggets here and there. This is one of them in the heavy, heavy King Sporty & The Root Rocker's "Get On Down". Personally I discovered the Connie Case version before getting on this one, but I do prefer this version.

Illvester - Feel Reel (Kon Remix)
New one from Basic Fingers and Kon, off Kon & Amir. Not really much to say; just a straight up party tune which probably will be quite big in certain circles. With all rights.
Soon out on vinyl, stretching over 10 minutes.

Manhattans - Let your love come down
This is one of many favourite boogie joints in 'Let your love come down' from Manhattans. It just has the perfect swing and tempo, it can easily be dropped either when you want the party started or when it has taken off.
Nothing clever, just pure dance and joy.
Hope you dig!

Jerry Williams - Easy on yourself
This is not be confused with its Swedish namesake. It's from the US rocker Jerry Williams which I can't say much about, besides it's a lot sleazier and funkier tha any other Jerry. The track is ripped of a LP call 'Gone', I haven't been listening through it properly, but as far I've heard it hasn't much else to offer. He's also doing a version of Horace Silver's 'Song for my father', which from my jazz perspective he should have left undone.
But this is like fine cheeze in 'Easy on yourself'.
Hope you dig!

Lalomie Washburn - Give Me Love With The Music
It's a bit of a special feeling when you find those thirty year old records which hasn't been touched by the hand of man. That's the story with this one from Lalomie Washburn which I recently found a sealed copy of. The LP is "My music is hot", nothing ellusive and I believe also reissued at some point. But still a bit of icing on the cake to the 3 second rush when unpacking your precious new record (and before shelving it).
Anyway, the track is "Give Me Love With The Music" and it's just, such a sweet and soulful disco banger and would probably fit nicely anywhere in a decent set.

Chilly - Dance with me
Here's a bit of European disco, slightly on the 'whiter' side with the guitars and the typical baseline. None the less good stuff to drop now and then. This is from 'Chilly', the Germans possibly mostly known for the track 'For your love' off the same LP. For anyone into this, there's another good one from them in the 'Showbiz' LP. But beware, occasionally (or mostly?) the majority of the LP tracks go very, very wrong. But here's a nugget for you.

Here's a nice and warming drop from the other night. A piece of mature and blue eyed soul from America in 'Are you there' and off the 1977 'Harbor' LP. Actually produced by the George Martin.

Recorded this earlier today. It flows quite nicely and I got fairly please with it, so I might as well put it up here. Some boogie, 80's leftfield bits, house and an amazing Frederic Mercier track in the end.

Venise - The mistery with me
On the subject of disco, not particularly deep, but certainly a solid one. Venises' 'The mistery with me' from the 'Best disco in the city' LP. There's another release under the producer Jo Bissos name. There's actually a few other heavy and much sampled tracks on the LP.

N.Y. House'n Authority – APT. 3A
I went back to this the other day and did I get a pleasant surprise?! Very much a stone cold classic from from day one. Rheji Burrells APT. EP on Nu Groove. But it sounded even better than I could remember. And the APT. 2A track as well. Certainly a record that will be one those rare 12" kids will be looking for in 10 years time.

Fonda Rae - Heobah (Hey-O-Bah)
Happy new year to you all!
I was gonna try to summarise the year in some way, not sure how. A list or most played record or so. But that's just too much to ask for, especially on a day like this. But I've picked a recent favourite that been along to quite few gigs during past times - Fonda Raes' "Heobah (Hey-O-Bah)". She's probably most known for the all-time classic in "Over like a fat rat". This might not be as iconic, but still a fine and heavy party starter.
Hope you dig!

Au Pairs - Headache for Michelle
I first heard this on Jazzman Gerald mix. Certainly a bit out of the hat for being him, but definately up my street. This is off an LP called 'Playing with a different sex', can't really say anything smart about the gender reference in the title. Ayway, a great track in 'Headache for Michelle'.

Tractor - Everytime it happens
I've been really sucked into my disco, and more dancey stuff for the past times. And sometimes I need to remind myself to get back to jazz and related. Well, this is not really jazz related, but still slightly alternative from the other stuff on this blog. And I'm really into my folk and psych as well, like this one from Tractor in 'Everytime it happens' from their self titled 72' LP. If you want an original pressing of this you need to fork out a substantial amount of money, this rip though, is from later reissue. Actually the original label - Dandelion was the legendary brittish radio DJ John Peels'.
So, a step aside from my ordinary posts, but none the less fantastic music.
Hope you dig!

Sylvester - I need somebody to love tonight
I'm sure, well guessing, that most people recall this glitchy drag queen character when thinking of Sylvester. Also known as Patrick Cowley, is possibly most known for hi-nrg anthem 'Do you wanna' or 'You make me feel mighty real'. But he's actually done some deeper stuff as well. Some really soulful bits where his gospel background comes trough and later on some more modern euro-ish disco stuff.
Here is a personal fave in the dub, instrumental version of 'I need somebody to love tonight', off the 'I who have nothing' 12". There's also a vocal version on the 'Stars' LP.

Wham - Lovemaker
The story from last weekend repeats itself. I went back to the same flea market as the seller had promised to bring along some more records. I specifically asked for 12"s as I knew he had some, and sure he did. I picked up a few disco bangers and other stuff. I was specially pleased with this 12" from Wham - 'Lovemaker' in a Jim Burgess mix. Obviously not to mix with the UK pop sensation from the 80's.
As I had no knowledge of them, I took a chance on it. Though, I briefly could remember, seing an LP listed on a fine sellers site so I realised I was on to something. And here we go, a nice piece of leftfield with a mature west coast feeling.
Hope you dig too!

NYCC - I'll keep my light in my window
I went out diggin with a friend today. We popped into the local flea market. Actually I've never bought this many second hand records at the same time and from one place. I took a chance on few, but most of them we're really nice finds. It was this former dj sitting on some really nice wax.
This was one of them. NYCC - New York community choir with 'I'll keep my light in my window'. An excellent piece of life affirmative music that certainly will lift any party through the roof.
Hope you dig!
