Funk Masters - Love money

For anyone into their funkier side of disco there's tons of early rap instrumentals out there. Here's one from the Funk Masters in "Love Money", a 1980 UK release on Tania Music. Add a bit of dubby fx's and it's right up my strasse with enough whistles and bells to fit into any decent disco and leftfield set.
The original release also comes in an easter festive yellow pressing.
Hope you dig!

The Duncan Sisters - Outside Love

If you got a few spare dollars and are looking for a disco banger to spend it on; this would be my tip. The Duncan Sisters in 'Outside Love'. Nothing but seven minutes of pure love and energy. Actually (co-)produced by John Luongo, and when looking back on his discography there's loads. I didn't have much knowledge of him, besides some of the less mainstream, leftfield stuff he's done.
Anywayz, hope you dig!

Sha-lor - I'm in love

Raw, but soulful garage back from the summer of love era. Here from Sha-lor in "I'm in love" and the conservative version on Gertie. Becoming a somewhat conservative version myself, I can't help but thinking this is house music kids of today need to get more familiar with.
Hope you dig!

Alton McClain & Destiny ‎– Crazy Love

You've got to love this! Killer, soulful disco from Alton McClain & Destiny ‎in "Crazy Love". Here's with Jim Burgess at the controls on this 12" version, with a monster breakdown. Make sure you check!
I actually got this, not too long ago and it had belonged to a 'Sundance Kid', member of a record pool back in the day. And instinctively I got curious of the story of the record. A rather distinct divergence if you're dealing with physical artefacts opposed to digital 'records'. I might actually need to do some research for the 'Sundance Kid'.
Anyways, hope you dig!

Sailor - Down by the docks

I think they are some UK glam rock types in Sailor. Here's something slightly different from them in 'Down by the docks' off a Canadian 12". I believe the 12" version is different from the LP one, more stripped down and dirty.  And it's great, all up my street with its pumping beats, sleazy bass and sweet disco-ey strings.
Hope you dig!

Donald Byrd - Ghana

There's been soo many Donald Byrd tracks over the decades, and so many styles covered. Basically any modern genre has it connections to them in some way.
And he was one the greatest. Here's one personal favourite in the slamming 'Ghana' of the 'Byrd in flight' LP.
Hope you dig - you should!

OPM - In and out of love

Here's a heavy piece of leftfield-ish funk in the 12" version of OPM's 'In and out of love'. Bit of adult rave simply.
Hope you dig!
Update: New download link.

Ströer - Don't Stay For Breakfast

Don't really know much about Mr Ströer. It's german, cosmic, with Harry Thuman at the controls. That's it. Check Ströers self titled LP for another great track in 'Think it over'. Here you get the massive 'Dont stay for breakfast'.
Hope you dig!

Heaven & Earth - Jenny

I've had a quite good turnover on the selling lately and obviously, from there it isn't long to get into the wants. This time I wanted to go into some stuff not necessarily disco or related. So here's a recent purchase in Heaven & Earth and the song 'Jenny' off the 'Refuge' LP. It's really a no brainer, just ace folky psychadelic soul on the Ovation label. One thing I found out was that this actually was produced by Dick Shory, who I believe was the head of the label in some way.
Anyways, hope you dig!

TRMBTS

A x-mas bonus. Bits of library, leftfield-ish soul, disco and house.

Robin Beck - Sweet talk

I didn't realise that this was the Robin Beck that had a quite major hit -"First time" in the eighties. If you're old enough to remember that is. Anyway this is prior to that era, in her major disco bomb "Sweet talk". It's just perfect soul disco with some heavy strings, courtsey of Kenny Lehman, who's behind some of the Chic stuff and some more underground releases later in the eighties.
Maybe it's her duties as backing singer to Chaka Khan, amongst others, that gives some logical explanation for this single. Musicwise, as far as I know, there's isn't anything like this in her discography; it's just all cheezy rock stuff.
Update: I put the track in this mix.
Hope you dig!

Mr Fingers - Stars

There isn't any day when you can't find a Larry Heard song that captures your mood. I copped a few records back in the day, but to be totally honest, I didn't really understand his greatness back then. But obviously it's great to have them today.
Here's a rip of the classic 89' "Amnesia" LP in "Stars", and this just great emotional and timeless electronic music. Sure not banging as the kids like it, but non the less essential dance music.
I hope you dig!

First love - It's a mystery to me

This is such a sweet boogie tune form First love in 'Its' a mystery to me'. A proper midtempo banger produced by Donald Burnside, who still remains a bit of a mystery to me. Anyway, let the music speak for it self.
Hope you dig!

Kenny Loggins - This is it

I'm not all over this AOR thing, but this dude got soul. Kenny Loggins here in a live version of 'This is it'. As far as I know only available on this 'for radio promo only' 12". Dropped at the right time, you will look cool to everybody and their mother, banging the party. The other way would be risking that the kids just will think you're an old f@rt who should go back under your old stone and Toto collection.
But that's what this game is all about; taking some risks and gain some karma in dj-heaven.
Hope you dig!

Queen Samantha - Take a chance

The perfect vintage dance record. A nice blend of the early, electronic euro sound mixed with proper disco. Queen Samantha's - 'Take a chance' came out 79' on the T.K label. It must have sounded amazing when it came out, certainly ahead of its time.
Nuff said really.
Hope you dig!

Fern Kinney ‎– I'm Ready For Your Love

I got this one just a few weeks ago, as first heard on a HMD mix. Fern Kinney's "I'm reday for your love" on a Malaco 12", not costing you more than a Starbucks coffee. It actually to me a while to find out about the artist and title, but you know what's it's like when you're keen enough. The version off the mix was also slightly edited, but this rip is of the 12". And I think it works just perfectly, sure nice to have slightly longer intro and such, but I don't think it's needed. Just 4 minutes of joy for your dance floor. In and out, job done.
Hope you dig!

The hot new mix!

Hola!
I haven't given up yet. Certainly not on the dj front, even though the blogging has been neglected for past times.
Had to do some mix therapy the other night and pressed rec. Mixing some new and old stuff - comme il faut. Slightly ruff here and there, but there you go, that's playing old records on vintage gear.

Check for some Bombers, Punkin Machine, Prins Thomas, Burrell Brothers, all spontaniously but carefully picked.
Thanks and hope you dig!

Johnny Dynell - Rhythm of love

Back again!
Here with one of my big tunes from this summer. From Johnny Dynell and the man called Larry Levan. Actually this is the complete flipside off the 1986 'Rhythm of love' 12" in the 'area dub' and 'garage dub' mixed together. This just fits nicely anywhere with the house and disco stuff. So next time; ask your local dj to spin some rhythm of love!
And now when the olympic season is coming to an end there will hopefully be more time for blogging.
Hope you dig!

Re-cap

Long time, no post. Busy times, both on a personal and professional level. But slowly getting back to the music again, actually plugged in my decks today for the first time in weeks.
Unfortunately we've had some tragic passings during the last weeks.
Like trillions of others, one of my first encounters with slightly more 'subcultural' music was with the Beastie Boys. At the time Paul's Boutique caught my attention and got me more interested in getting deeper into the history of black music. I remember not being too keen on the music, there were probably one or two tracks which I liked, but it was certainly more the samples that fascinated me. Later on the other LP's actually attracted me more musicwise. Obviously the clothing with X-Large was important at the time.
All part of this was Adam 'MCA' Yauch. News about people passing in a too early age is always sad, but he will certainly leave his impression through the history of popular culture.
Wild Sugar's 'Bring it here' is one of many examples of their sample brilliance, and certainly a fine track in it's own.

Wild Sugar - Bring it here (192)
Donna Summer needs no introduction, even your mum knows about her. Being on top on the peak of the disco era she somehow embodies the cheezy disco stuff. But you can never foresee her contribution together with Mr. Moroder. Sure, they're all played out, but 'I feel love' is still one of the heaviest disco tracks of all time. There's no reason to deny that.
Here's probably a lesser known track, but a personal favourite of the 'Bad girls' LP. Walk away, a less euro-ish song for the more mature audience.

Ann Margret - Midnight message

I've got no clue what plans the ex-swede Ann Margret Olsson had when she left the rurals of Jämtland in her young years. It's hard to believe she thought, she would end up doing this heavy leftfield-ish disco piece in 'Midnight message' with Paul Sabu. Even though presenting a fairly long discography, I believe these fine moments are quite a rare for her.
Certainly my cup and I hope you dig too!

Sinnamon - I need you now

Here's one of the early blueprints of modern, soulful dance music. A stone cold classic in the 83' boogie tune from the girl group Sinnamon and 'I need you now'. They had some bigger, commercial success with some other songs, but this one is it.
Nuff said, really.
Hope you dig!

Craig Peyton - Be thankful for what you got

Here's a great take on William DeWaughn's iconic Philly classic 'Be thankful for what you got'. This is the instrumental version of the Craig Peyton 12" from 83' on Profile Records (which later on became the legendary Hip Hop label). Personally I do prefer this instrumental even though the vocal is more or less a dub version. Anyway, this should fit somewhere between the boogie and more contemporary house stuff.
Hope you dig!

The Quick - One light in a blackout

For me this one balances on a fine line on the verge of tipping over to the cheezy side. But it doesn't. 'One night in a blackout' by The Quick has been a big personal favourite for the past times. Obviously, if you're into vintage dance music it's very much a timeless piece with its soulful sound. This rip is off the 12" with the extended version.
Hope you dig!
