You can't go wrong with a bit of West End classics; here from Forrrce in Keep on dubbin' off the Keep on dancin' 12". Whether I wanna go for the more straight up boogie in the original or Monsieur Kevorkians dub, is a close draw. Today is Sunday, therefore we keep a bit more loose.

There's always room for a bit of boogie. Here from Gino Soccio in 'You move me' and a promo only 12". Apparently Gino is a bit of a multi-instrumentalist, playing loads of stuff and arranging and here's it's quality all through.

Rah Band - Messages from the stars

Here's a bit of UK pop culture history from Rah Band and 'Messages from the stars'. Mr. Hewson has had his fair share of fame producing loads of musical celebrities, and then went to form the slightly more funky Rah Band in the late seventies. This is probably as close he gets todays' heads, as i'm gessing this is getting spins in a quite few spheres.

Fern Kinney ‎– I'm Ready For Your Love

I got this one just a few weeks ago, as first heard on a HMD mix. Fern Kinney's "I'm reday for your love" on a Malaco 12", not costing you more than a Starbucks coffee. It actually to me a while to find out about the artist and title, but you know what's it's like when you're keen enough. The version off the mix was also slightly edited, but this rip is of the 12". And I think it works just perfectly, sure nice to have slightly longer intro and such, but I don't think it's needed. Just 4 minutes of joy for your dance floor. In and out, job done.

Had to do some mix therapy the other night and pressed rec. Mixing some new and old stuff - comme il faut. Slightly ruff here and there, but there you go, that's playing old records on vintage gear. 
Check for some Bombers, Punkin Machine, Prins Thomas, Burrell Brothers, all spontaniously but carefully picked.

Here's one of the early blueprints of modern, soulful dance music. A stone cold classic in the 83' boogie tune from the girl group Sinnamon and 'I need you now'. They had some bigger, commercial success with some other songs, but this one is it.

Craig Peyton - Be thankful for what you got

Here's a great take on William DeWaughn's iconic Philly classic 'Be thankful for what you got'. This is the instrumental version of the Craig Peyton 12" from 83' on Profile Records (which later on became the legendary Hip Hop label). Personally I do prefer this instrumental even though the vocal is more or less a dub version. Anyway, this should fit somewhere between the boogie and more contemporary house stuff.

Serious Intention - You don't know (Special remix)

Here's a heavy piece of proto-house or whatever you want to call it. Released in the early days of the Easy Street Records label, which then went on to release lots of garage and house music. This rip is off the Special remix 12" of Serious Intention's 'You don't know'. Without having been there myself I'm sure it was big with the Chicago and NY boys and queens.

Manhattans - Let your love come down

This is one of many favourite boogie joints in 'Let your love come down' from Manhattans. It just has the perfect swing and tempo, it can easily be dropped either when you want the party started or when it has taken off. 
Nothing clever, just pure dance and joy.

Another personal favourite from recent occasions which crosses over nicely from disco to slightly more modern, leftfield sounds. A fine tool that certainly does the trick when some heat is required. It's Jellybean Benitez at the controls on this dub version of Mascara's - 'Baja'.

Kicking off with a classic killer groove from Charles Earland in 'Coming to you live'. I was lucky enough to score a mint copy of the 12" some years ago, at a very reasonable price that is. Again, an old jazzcat going disco in his career. I've mentioned a few before - Jimmy McGriff and Doc Severinsen amongst others.

Patsy Gallant - It'll all come around

The spring is in full bloom up here in the north, some days we're even getting some nice summery vibes. It's funny how some music gets related to different times of the year. Possibly it's about where you live, as we nordics tend to get all melancholic during the dark times and slightly more lively during the few summer months. 
Anyway, here's a personal summer tune from Patsy Gallant in 'It'll all come around'. It's of the self titled Canadian release, and for those into your jazz dance might know her for the 'Te Caliente' track off the same LP.

Ronnie Dyson - All Over Your Face

Back to the boogie! 
This one has been a big spin recently; Ronnie Dyson's 'It's all over my face'. Classic John Morales & Sergio Munzibai sounds. Actually it was a friend of my who pulled it out on a recent night we were playing together with the consequence that I had to step out on the floor and have a swing with a big grin on my face. I've had my own copy for quite some time, but it has mostly been lying around and now when hearing it in the right context again; it's gonna come along for forthcoming boogie sessions. And certainly getting the plays it deserves.
On a more personal note, I'm glad I've created a local alliance with some other heads. It just prooves the importance of the social aspect of the musical interest. Obviously dj'ing and playing out is all about interaction with people, but being able to sit down and have a coffee and talk about whatever musical nerdery  you want is fantastic. Living in a place where I share musical references with quite a few, this has been something I've missed for quite some time.

Here's a fine piece of mature and soulful boogie. Damaris 'What about my love?', a nice take on Johnnie Taylors version. Personally I prefer the Damaris one, and that's the one ripped here. I've chucked in the Johnnie Taylor as well - hope you dig either one of them!

There isn't much that hasn't been said about this true genious. And if you claim to be into dance music in any form and don't dig this, then I just feel sorry for you. This is off the 'When doves cry' 12", and one I like to get back to and drop now and then.
